Notes on crimping holes

1. The crimping hole can reduce the wave soldering set for soldering such components once. It is very easy to replace parts. Of course, if you change it many times, it will affect the reliability of the hole.

2. The crimping hole is generally drilled with a new drill bit, because of its higher accuracy requirements. Our company’s conventional crimping hole control tolerance is /-0.05mm, and some strict can even reach /-0.025mm.

3. The crimping holes are mostly standard PIN pin components. When they are directly installed, no soldering is required. The PIN pin will be squeezed to form a connection with the hole wall.

4. It is impossible to press the entire hole of the PCB to control the connection process.

Several main processes affecting crimping holes: drilling, thickening of copper, pattern plating, surface treatment.

The fluctuation of the aperture size is mainly caused by the plating process. The thickness of the plate also affects the compensation standard, which is generally bounded by 2.4mm.

Crimp holes with copper thicknesses greater than 30um need to be evaluated before being produced. It needs to be operated by the plating parameters of the process, and the plating parameters need to be based on the thickness-to-diameter ratio and line width and line spacing of the board.
