Many customers and design engineers often ask what this means when placing orders on the system, and which option should I choose for my file, regarding the distinction between VIA and PAD in terms of “through hole cover oil” and “through hole opening window”? The following is an explanation of this issue:
I often encounter such problems, where the design is severely non-standard and it is impossible to distinguish between pad and via usage. Sometimes conductive holes are treated with pad attributes, and sometimes keyholes are treated with via attributes. The design of VIA and PAD attributes is chaotic, leading to incorrect processing. This is also one of the common complaints. For circuit board production factories, when processing CAM data, some film engineers handle it, Due to the non-standard design documents of the client, mistakes are made. We help the client modify the documents, correct the non-standard design, and rely on our own experience to handle engineering data. This has led to and contributed to the non-standard design of the client. Jieduobang hereby explains that the last time you did the right thing does not mean that your documents are correct! All engineers must pay attention to design standards and specifications! Jieduobang will once again strictly require all film processing engineers to maintain the current status of customer documents as much as possible! Try to handle according to design specifications and standards as much as possible, not based on so-called experience! Reflect the problems, which can serve as a reference for design engineers to improve design quality and reduce the occurrence of problems!
This article mainly explains the connection between conductive holes, keyholes, and protel/pads/and geber files. Conductive holes: via keyholes: pads are particularly prone to several problems:
1、 Mixing pad and via can cause problems
1. When your file is a pad or protel, send it to the factory and request that the hole be covered with oil. Be careful and carefully check if your plug hole (pad) is also useful. Otherwise, your plug hole will also be coated with green oil, resulting in the inability to weld. Dispute point: The plug hole must be coated with tin on top. How did you cover the oil and how did I use it? When saying this, please check the file, Is it designed with pad or via!
2. When your file is a pad or protel, send the file to the factory and place an order with the requirement of via hole cover oil. Many customers use pad (plug-in hole) to represent the conductive hole, which may cause your conductive hole to open a window. Perhaps you want via hole cover oil, and there may be a dispute at that time. What I want is the conductive hole cover oil, why did I open the window? Please check your file design! If you are via, process as via, and if it is pad, process as pad! Because no one will know that you have conductive holes and plug-in holes, and that via and pad are the only identifiers. Please be clear!
2、 During the conversion process, issues arise due to non-standard design or unclear rules for converting Gerber settings. When you send a Gerber file, the factory cannot distinguish which ones are through holes and which ones are keyholes. The only thing that can be recognized is processing according to the file, and if there is a soldering layer, there is a window! Argument point: I requested oil for the manhole cover. You have opened the window for me now, and I may have caused a short circuit. Please check your file. The gerber you provided is a film file, and the factory cannot check whether it is a conductive hole or a keyhole. Please check the gerber file to see if it has a soldering layer. If it is, open the window, and if it is not, cover the oil
3、 How to design manhole cover oil in protel or pads—— This is the most standard practice, and if the design standards are met, there will definitely be no mistakes!
In protel, there is a stretching option in the via attribute. If it is checked, it must be covered with oil. If it is not checked, then all you transfer out is covered with oil. In pads, when transferring files, you need to consider the hole (via) for covering oil. Method: When outputting the solder mask (solder mask) layer, simply check the top of the upper solder mask – below via, which represents all through holes and windows. If it is not checked, it means through holes and covers oil. To summarize, pad should be made according to pad, which is the plug-in hole, Via, you have two options. If you provide the original file, let you choose when placing an order. If you provide a gerber file, be sure to check if the gerber file meets your requirements!
