Release Date: January 10, 2026
The European Commission formally implemented three major sustainable electronics regulatory frameworks on January 1, 2026, bringing comprehensive changes to design, production and export compliance for PCB products sold in the European market, under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and circular economy strategy.
First, mandatory recyclability labeling is enforced for PCBs: all multi-layer circuit boards need to mark the proportion of recyclable raw materials and detailed disassembly guidance for copper traces, epoxy resin and solder mask to facilitate end-of-life e-waste recycling. Second, the Digital Product Passport (DPP) system is rolled out, requiring full traceable records of raw material sources, production processes and hazardous substance test reports for exported PCBs. Third, updated REACH regulation restricts three flame retardant substances including TCEP and TCPP, banning their application in PCB substrates and solder masks for smart fire control and LED drive control boards, with non-compliant shipments facing customs detention and market removal penalties. Global PCB suppliers are accelerating material upgrading and process adjustment to meet EU green trade thresholds.
pping up layout of automotive-grade PCB production lines to match global new energy vehicle supply chain expansion plans.
