Printed circuit board (PCB) is the key electronic interconnect part of electronic products. As the basic industry of electronic information industry, the printed circuit board industry has a huge scale and is greatly affected by the cyclical fluctuations of macro economy.
According to the market outlook and investment analysis report of the printed circuit board manufacturing industry released by the institute of forward-looking industry, the total output value of the PCB industry rose to $52,447 billion in 2010, up 27.22% year-on-year. From 2011 to 2016, the global economy was generally stable in low-speed growth, and the total output value of the PCB industry fluctuated slightly from year to year. China has gradually become the main production base of global printed circuit boards.
Under the overall trend of global PCB industry shifting to Asia, China, as a major manufacturer of electronic products, has attracted a large number of foreign capital and local PCB enterprises to invest with its huge domestic market and relatively low production costs, and promoted the explosive growth of China’s PCB industry in just a few years.
Currently, China has become the world’s largest producer of PCB and one of the regions in the world that can provide the largest production capacity and the most complete product type of PCB. On the whole, although there are a large number of local PCB enterprises, their enterprise scale and technical level still have a certain gap compared with foreign enterprises that set up branches in mainland China, and their competitiveness is slightly weak.
From 2008 to 2016, the output value of China’s PCB industry increased from $150.37 million to $27.123 million, with the annual compound growth rate as high as 7.65%, far exceeding the global growth rate of 1.47%. The financial crisis in 2008 hit the global PCB industry hard, and China’s PCB industry was not immune. However, against the background of global PCB industry transfer to China, China’s PCB industry fully recovered after 2009 and maintained a rapid growth trend.
The overall size of China’s PCB industry reached $27.123 billion in 2016. In the next five years (from 2016 to 2021), the output growth of China’s PCB industry will slow down, and the annual compound growth rate is 3.39%. It is expected that the output value of China’s PCB industry will reach us $320.42 billion by 2021, and the proportion of the total output value of the global PCB industry will slightly increase to 53.04%.
